Crispy, Sweet, and Irresistible: Apple Fritters You’ll Crave All Fall
I almost skipped on sharing this recipe but I enjoyed it so much when I first made it, that I decided it was something that needed to get out there!
Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. I may or may not be one of those individuals you’d see on the street or social media that’s always wearing plaid, sweaters, and vests. I fully embrace the basic, fall look.
Another reason why I love fall is due to the food. I grew up in a family that made many homemade dishes and would always go all out for Thanksgiving. Some of my favorite dishes are fall dishes.
I grew up in Darke County Ohio and have wonderful memories of going to the county fair and pigging out on the food. One of those fun treats were apple fritters. This recipe that I’m sharing is certainly a bit healthier but still tastes like fried goodness.
Here are the ingredients that you’ll need for this fun, easy recipe:
- 3 apples
- Granulated sugar
- Rum
- Lemon
- Flour
- Water
- Vegetable Oil
- Confectioners’ sugar
If you’re looking for a greasy treat that is easy to make, this is the one for you!
Apple Fritters
Equipment
- Mixing Bowl
- Large Sauce Pan
Ingredients
- 3 Apples
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp rum
- 1 lemon
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- Vegetable Oil
- Confectioners' Sugar
Instructions
- Peel and core the apples then cut them into thin slices – 1/2 in or smaller
- Place the apple slices in a bowl then mix in the rum, sugar, and zest of the lemon. Mix it all together then cover the bowl and place in the fridge for at least one hour.
- After the apples sit, take them out and pat them dry.
- Pour the vegetable oil in a large sauce pan. Roughly, about as much to cover 1/2 inch up the sides of the fritters. Turn the heat on high.
- Take the flour and mix in about 1 cup of water. You almost want a pancake batter type of texture but not too thin or runny.
- Mix the apples with the batter then take about a ladle full and fry until golden brown then flip over.
- Transfer to a cooling rack then sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and enjoy! Don't be afraid to add some caramel sauce.
